Jewel Bargain Meal of the Week 4/9 - 4/15

Jewel has a few great deals on holiday meats this week, but not much for normal dinner meats. So this week, breakfast for dinner is a great, inexpensive option! My family loves to have eggs for dinner. Jewel is offering several ways to get eggs free when you buy other items. I've chosen the orange juice because it goes nicely with breakfast for dinner, but you should choose whatever makes the most sense for your family.

Buy: 2 pounds Farmland bacon ($5.99), 2 cartons Tropicana orange juice ($6), 20 ct Jewel hash browns ($4), loaf of Sun Maid raisin bread ($2.50), and 1 dozen eggs (free with orange juice purchase). Pay $18.49 plus tax.

Use these for Breakfast for Dinner:

1/2 carton Tropicana orange juice $1.50
Eggs $0.00
1/2 pound Farmland bacon $1.50
4 Jewel hash browns $0.80
1/2 loaf Sun Maid Raisin bread $1.25

Total for meal: $5.05

Menu Plan Monday

Holy Week is here -- I'm so excited for Easter! We'll be busy with church activities this week, but I've got some easy meals planned to keep us out of the restaurants! Also, Monday is opening day, which at our house means hot dogs! We're not brave enough to be out at the game (too cold! ), but we like to celebrate at home.

Monday - hot dogs, french fries, applesauce
Tuesday - Slow Cooker Sweet and Tangy Chicken , rice
Wednesday - frozen pizza (or leftovers)
Holy Thursday - tacos, Spanish rice
Good Friday - Pinto Beans and Rice, cornbread
Holy Saturday - Turkey Macaroni Bake, peas
Easter Sunday - brunch @ in-laws

I went through my cereal stockpile and found several boxes that expire in the next month or two, so I'll be looking for some recipes to use them up. I also have quite a few eggs to use -- I planned to color eggs with DS, but my MIL brought some over yesterday, so now I have 18 colored eggs and 2 dozen raw eggs!

Super Savings Saturday

Sunday I stopped at Jewel to pick up a couple of things - a 3 lb bag of apples, 2 containers of caramel apple dip, and 2 lbs of bacon for a total of $13.20. I picked up 2 packages of biscuits, 2 packages of blackberries (marked down), and a bunch of bananas for a total of $4.30.

I was back at Jewel on Wednesday for some great deals. I got 5 boxes Post cereal, 2 dozen eggs, and 2 Ronzoni meals for $6.80. And, the best part was I got a $5 cat back for the cereal! Also pictured is a pound of butter I got at a local market for $1.50.

I was planning to go to Walgreens, CVS, and Target this week as well. I haven't spent much time getting organized for this, as I have been cleaning out toys for a resale and trying to catch up on housework. Perhaps I will still get some shopping done today and edit my post later!

A Savings Challenge

April is here! This is my favorite month -- spring weather, baseball, and (oh, yeah) my birthday! I'm challenging myself this month to keep my grocery budget under $150. I've planned dinners from my (much too large) stockpile. I'm also going to try to make as many breakfasts and lunches from the stockpile. I want to master baking bread and even plan to try to make my own English muffins.

Here's my grocery plan for the month:

5 gallons milk $10
4 dozen eggs $10
fresh produce $60

The rest will be for those needs that pop up and to buy the great deals that come up in order to keep a decent stockpile going. I love having a stockpile, but it got out of hand the past few months and I want to get it back under control. What I save in groceries this month ($150, if I keep to my planned budget) will go towards paying down our credit card debt.

Anyone else up for the challenge? How much can you shave off your normal grocery budget this month? What will you use the extra money for?
