Money Making CVS Shopping Trip!

Paid to shop? Oh, yes. I. am. All this for $5.95
out of pocket, plus $7.00 Extra Bucks!
You know your couponing is rubbing off on your husband when he starts saving boxes of cereal that contain anything that resembles a coupon. Love that man. I came home today and box of Honey Comb Cereal was left on the counter - empty. As I walked it to the trash, he called out, "Wait! There's a coupon thingy on that..." There was. A Box Top "coupon."

It'll take some training, but he's getting there! No box goes unsearched for coupons in this house :)

I tell you this story because A. I like to brag about my husband's awesomeness, and B. That's exactly how I managed to score free tissues this week.

Here we go:

Puffs Tissues 48 ct.
Regularly $2.49 on sale for $0.99.
I bought three and used three $1.00/1 coupons

(I found the coupons on the inside of the Puffs Tissue boxes! You know that cardboard circle you peel off before using the tissues? They are on the cardboard so don't throw them away!) = FREE plus $0.03 overage!

Select Dove, Caress, Lever and Degree Products
Buy $15.00, Get $5.00 Extra Bucks
Buy one Dove Men+Care Body and Face Wash, regularly 6.49 on sale for $4.00. Use one $1.00/1 coupon = $3.00
Buy one Dove Body Wash 18-24 oz., regularly $7.99 on sale for $7.50. Use one $1.00/1 coupon = $6.50
Buy one Dove Shampoo, regularly $4.99 on sale for $3.00. Use one $1.00/1 coupon = $2.00

Buy one Dove Conditioner, regularly $4.99 on sale for $3.00
All together = $14.50 plus $5.00 Extra Bucks

A note: There are many different combinations you can use to get your out-of-pocket even lower. My store was out of the Men+Care Shampoo, which messed me up a bit. So I opted to get a larger Body Wash and an extra conditioner - even though I didn't have a coupon - to make up the difference and still get the $5.00 Extra Bucks.

Herbal Essence Products
Buy two, Get $1.00 Extra Buck

Buy one Herbal Essence Shampoo, regularly $4.49 on sale for $2.50
Buy one Herbal Essence Mousse, regularly $4.49 on sale for $2.50
Use a Buy one, get one free coupon (my coupon automatically took off the FULL coupon value of $4.99!!) and $2.50/$12 in hair products from the Magic Coupon Machine (includes the Herbal Essence products and Dove products) = FREE plus $1.00 Extra Bucks and $2.49 overage!

A reminder - you cannot use a $1.00/1 coupon with the BOGO coupon. BOGO coupons apply to two items and, therefore, you cannot use another manufacturer's coupon. You CAN use a store coupon, however.

Speed Stick or Lady Speed Stick Deodorant
Regularly $3.49, on sale for $1.99
Buy two, use $1.00/2 coupon and $2.00/2 CVS store coupon = $0.98 for two!

All Laundry Detergent
Regularly $8.29, on sale for $3.99
Buy one, use $1.00/1 coupon= $1.99

Total Before Coupons = $56.58
Total After Coupons and $10 Extra Bucks from last trip = $5.95 PLUS $7.00 Extra Bucks!

I plan to return later this week to scoop up the FREE Starbucks Ice Coffee and the FREE first aid kit deal before the end of the week (I just need to scout out some Band-Aid and Neosporin coupons before hitting the sale!)

So - are you finding coupons in obscure places? Please share! And I'd love to hear about any other good deals I may have missed :)

Happy couponing!

Shaws Update!

Last night Shaws updated their Facebook page with the following information regarding competitor coupons. Please note that some of the coupons previously accepted will no longer be accepted in store:

Competitor Store Coupons Promotion
Shaw’s and Star Market will only Accept Competitor Coupons from the following:
Traditional Supermarket (within our New England trading area)
This would include but not be limited to stores such as Hannaford, Stop & Shop, Big Y, Price Chopper, Walmart & Target food stores etc.
Club / Wholesale Stores
This will include but not be limited to stores such as BJ’s and Costco. However, the coupon must be for the same item and the same size as the item being purchased (often Club stores carry bulk and large pack sizes items that we do not carry). Coupons that read "any item" must read an exact size range, and we must carry an item in that size range.

Coupons we will not accept:
Stores outside our geographic area:
Shaw's operates in MA, ME, NH, RI, & VT  ex: Publix coupons will not be accepted.

Stores that are not Traditional Supermarkets: Dicks Sporting Goods, Clothing Stores (Macy's, Aeropostal), Office Max, Staples, Michaels, Restaurants, Etc.
Percent Off Coupons: Percent off an item coupons and percent off a total puchase will not be accepted.
Drug Stores: We will no longer accept drug store coupons. CVS, Walgreen's etc.
  • We will not take expired coupons.
  • We will not accept Family Dollar or Dollar General store coupons.
  • We will not accept Dollar Store coupons.
Additional Notes:
  • All competitive store item specific coupons must match the exact item being purchased (item, size, count) and must have a valid date printed on the coupon.
  • A competitor 'store' coupon can be stacked with a valid Manufacturer Coupon. However, a Shaw's Store coupon cannot be stacked together with a Competitor store coupon.
  • Basket coupons for example ($5 off $50.00) are acceptable as long as they meet the requirements.
  • Store Director always has the right to limit quantities.
  • Be sure to follow Shaws coupon acceptance policy for competitor coupons accepted.  For example:  An internet competitors coupon for a free item would not be redeemable at Shaws as we do not accept internet coupons on any free items.

First sweep at the NEW Shaws.

I didn't do as well as I had hoped, but I still managed to get a few good deals. Here's the breakdown:

SELECT General Mills Cereal, 4/$10 (originally $4.29 each):
Buy 4 select General Mills products, Get one gallon of milk free (up to $4.50)

NOTE: I had coupons for $0.50/1 Reeses Puffs Cereal, but it appeared these weren't part of the sale - so be alert!

Betty Crocker Cake Mix, $1.49 (originally $1.99):
Buy 4 select General Mills products, Get one gallon of milk free (up to $4.50)

Celebrate the NEW Shaws!

You've probably heard the rumors. You've probably heard the coupon-crazed stories - I sure have. But it's true!

Shaws has tossed the Rewards Card, slashed their prices and is now accepting competitor's coupons! Really, they are. I promise. Couponers everywhere, rejoice!

Check out the website, but be patient. You'll notice that their coupon policy hasn't been updated and that if you sign up for their email savings, you're still asked for your Rewards Card number. Don't let that fool you. In-store signage doesn't lie :)

I'm not sure how long they'll accept competitor's coupons, so stock up while you can. Had I known that this new policy started a few days ago, I would have scooped up ridiculous savings on cereal using Market Basket's in-store coupon for $4.00/4 boxes of General Mills cereal. Combine that with $0.75/1 coupons and I could have taken home four boxes of cereal for only $0! Plus a free gallon of milk!

I'll be keep an eye on this game-changing play. Stay tuned!

Market Basket Coupon Matchups

You have until Saturday, July 13, to grab these off the shelf:

Reynolds Baking Cups are only $0.69. Use a $1.00/1 coupon to get them for FREE! But be aware, Market Basket will not take off the full value of the coupon. They will mark it down to $0.69/1. I forgot about this and thought I would get some overage. So if there are baking cups that are on sale for a $1.00, grab those instead! You'll probably get more :)

Colgate Cavity Protection Toothpaste is on sale for $0.79. Use a $1.00/2 coupon (good on ANY 4oz toothpastes) and get two for only $0.58!

A few other worthwhile mentions:

Ready... set... go!
